Tutorial
Steampunk and Filigree Necklace What is Steampunk? In short, it is a fiction genre that celebrates steam power and machines. Think of Jules Verne and James Blaylock. This style is continued in visual arts and music. For more information - Google. In this new tutorial I show how to make this gorgeous necklace with an original butterfly pendant. You will need a pre-fabricated filigree part for one wing of the butterfly and some cogwheels from a mechanical watch for the other. Which parts to choose and how to arrange them is your choice, so no two necklaces are ever going to be the same. The color of the butterfly is created using polymer clay. It is really simple,so no previous experience with this material is needed. Again - the choice is yours, and you can make this necklace in any color combination you want. The glass-like finish on the pendant is created with resin. I will show you how to work with it in this tutorial. You can find this resin in craft stores (if you want to have a lot of it), or you may buy a trial-size kit directly from my Etsy shop. The kit contains enough resin to make at least two pendants like the one shown here. The techniques you will learn with this tutorial can be used for many future projects. Think of the possibilities! The tutorial includes:
Pre-requisites: Some previous experience with polymer clay and/or resin is helpful, but not necessary. Following this tutorial, you will be able to re-create the item shown on the cover of the tutorial and apply this new technique for your future creations. This project is based on my own techniques and ideas, which means 1) this is the only place where you can learn this technique and 2) I am asking you to play nice and observe my copyright.
